French ambassador's concern over weapons looted from police station

French Ambassador Marie Masdupoui has expressed concern over the weapons looted from various police stations in the country after the fall of the anti-discrimination student government.

On Sunday (August 25), the Home Affairs Advisor retired Lieutenant General Md. During a courtesy meeting with Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, he expressed his concern. A press release sent by the ministry informed that the meeting discussed the existing law and order situation, police reform, including the recovery of illegal weapons.

According to the press release, when the ambassador expressed concern about the weapons looted from various police stations, the adviser informed the ambassador that an operation would soon be conducted to recover the illegal weapons.

Highlighting the 'illegality and misuse' of some licensed arms during the previous government, the advisor said at the time that steps were being taken in that regard as well. The Home Affairs Adviser assured the Ambassador in the meeting that the law and order situation in Bangladesh is gradually improving.

He also said that although the law and order situation is facing some challenges due to various demands and issue-based movements of people of various classes and professions. Hopefully, the situation will improve soon.

The Ambassador inquired from the Adviser about the present government's steps in police reform. At this time, the advisor said, policemen have to perform their duties under a lot of pressure due to less rest time.

Expressing agreement with the ambassador, the adviser said, “We have taken a policy decision on police reform.” But it is in the early stages. Apart from the police force, we are gradually taking initiatives to reform other forces under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Deputy Head of Mission of the French Embassy in Dhaka Guillaume Audrein de Kerdrel and senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs were present at this time.
