Despite efforts of 11 units of fire service throughout the night, it was not possible to bring the fire of Gazi Tire factory located in Rupganj of Narayanganj under control. The factory was engulfed in flames on Sunday (August 25) around 10:30 p.m. and is still burning. At this time, there were several incidents of intermittent explosions, which shook the surrounding area.
It is known that at 10:35 PM, the fire service rushed to the spot after receiving information about the fire from the locals. 11 units joined each from Demra, Kanchpur, Adamji EPZ and Kanchan Fire Station. Many people are trapped inside the building. The factory area became heavy with the cries of the stranded and their families.
Many locals say that after the arrest of Golam Dastgir Gazi, the former minister and chairman of Gazi Group, there has been massive looting in the factory. Hundreds of people were trapped inside while looting even when the fire broke out.
Fire Service Headquarters Media Cell Officer Talha bin Jassim said that due to the inflammable materials of the infrastructure and tire production inside, the issue of bringing the fire under control and rescuing those trapped inside has become complicated.
The cause of the fire and the damage are still unknown. The fire service said that the cause and extent of damage will be known when the fire is completely under control.
