Gomti water above Bipatseema in Comilla, extreme suffering in Char area

The water level of Gomti river in Comilla is gradually increasing due to the continuous rains of the last few days. Due to continuous rainfall, the water in the river has already crossed the flood limit. The people of Gomti Char region have suffered greatly.

On Wednesday (August 21) morning, it was seen that the water of the river is flowing over the border. In this, the houses of the residents of Bhatpara area of Comilla city along with the nearby river banks have been submerged in water.

Meanwhile, since Tuesday evening, the river water started flowing near the border. At this time, the officials of the Water Development Board came out to observe the danger of the river dam. Locals said that they provided sandbags to prevent the cracks from the people of Kamarkhara and Babubazar when they got information about the cracks in the dam.

The Water Development Board has urged the people on the banks of the river to be careful instead of panicking. The local administration is working to evacuate the people from the riverbed to a safe place.

Meanwhile, in various videos on social media, it has been seen that Dumbur Dam has been opened due to rising water in the Indian state of Tripura. Locals are blaming this as the reason for the water rising in Feni and Comilla.

However, due to rising water, the farmers of the river pastures are also worried. Crops have already been damaged due to submergence of fodder in various areas. Water is entering houses in low-lying areas. Cracks are appearing in Gomti's aisle at various places. There is panic among the people of the area. The Water Development Board is working with utmost importance to prevent the incident, he said.

It is known that these farmers mainly make a living by cultivating the pastures of the river. They are worried as the water in Gomti rises. Many of the farmers' gourds, gourds, shrimps, radishes, red vegetables have been submerged in water. The affected farmers are standing near the river bank and crying. Not only fodder crops, people living in the fodder area have been busy moving their goods due to water entering the houses of many people.

Abdul Jalil, a farmer of Durgapur North Union, lamented and said, I was cultivating several types of vegetables with so much hope. All gone under water. God knows what will happen to me. How will I pay the debt?

Khan Mohammad Waliuzzaman, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board Comilla said, the water level of Gomti River in Comilla is 11.75 meters. It is already flowing over 12 meters. Such water has not happened in the last 30 years. Several teams of the Water Development Board are monitoring the dam. We have told the people of Gomti Par, if they see any crack or danger in any dam, they should immediately inform the Water Development Board. Moreover, I have asked the local administration to cooperate.

Regarding the opening of the dam in Tripura, Waliuzzaman said that even if the dam is opened, the Indian authorities never inform about it in advance. We have seen in various videos that they are miking in their area. I found out on social media that the dam has opened. But not officially confirmed.

In this regard, Comilla Adarsh Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Romen Sharma said that the water of Gomti river is flowing below the dam in Palpara part on the north side on an average of 3.5 to 4 decimal feet. In the southern part of river Gomti i.e. on the side of the city, the water is flowing below an average of 6 to 7 feet from the dam. Also, about 12 to 15 inches of water has increased in the last 6 hours. Everyone is requested to be cautious. We are also taking steps to move the people of Char area to alert places.
