High court order to register AB party

High court order to register AB party

The High Court has directed the Election Commission (EC) to immediately register My Bangladesh Party (AB Party) as a political party.

Today, Monday (August 19) after the final hearing of a writ, the High Court bench consisting of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque gave this order.

On July 24 last year, the Election Commission sent a letter rejecting AB Party's application for registration. The party convener AFM Solaiman Chowdhury wrote the writ on August 23 of the same year regarding the validity of this letter.

The High Court ruled on the preliminary hearing of the writ on August 31 last year. It was asked why AB Party will not be directed to register as a political party in the rule. Besides, the ruling asked why the Election Commission's decision not to register the AB Party should not be declared invalid.

The Chief Election Commissioner, Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Election Commission were asked to respond to the rule.

After the final hearing, the court declared the rule as absolute.

Advocate Tajul Islam (joint convener of AB Party) heard on behalf of the writ. Lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun Rana and Zobair Ahmed Bhuiyan were with him.
