Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Farida Akhtar, said that no hilsa fish will go to India from Bangladesh on the occasion of Durga Puja. Also we don't want to import any meat. Now lakhs of farmers are involved in cattle rearing.
He told these things to reporters in his office at the secretariat on Tuesday (September 3) afternoon. Fisheries and Livestock Adviser said some money-grubbing businessmen are trying to import meat. The activity of that cycle does not stop. As a government we are determined not to import meat to save the marginal farmers.
Adviser Farida said that measures are being taken to reduce the price of meat by reducing the cost of production, a party has started activities in favor of importing fresh frozen beef. We do not want to import any meat. Millions of farmers in this country are now involved in cattle rearing. Every year 20-25 lakh animals remain unsold during Eid al-Adha. In such a situation, if the meat is imported under the pretext of increasing the price, the key of the meat may go to other countries.
Questioning the nutritional quality of frozen meat, Farida Akhtar said that it will take a long time for these meats to arrive from abroad. In many cases, the nutritional value of beef can be lost due to improper processing. As a result, there is a risk of various diseases in these foods.
He said, we are taking measures to reduce the price of meat by reducing the cost of production. We are aware that people can eat meat at low and fair prices and farmers can survive.
