How Dog Wakes Up Deaf Brother to Say ‘We’re Home’ Has Internet Sobbing

The heartwarming way a dog wakes up her deaf canine brother without scaring him has been melting hearts online.

Two-year-old Maisy lives in North Carolina with her owner Sierra Justus and 3-year-old brother Levi who was born deaf.

In a TikTok video, which has more than 14 million views, and was posted to the social media platform earlier this month by @leviandmaisy, the special bond seen between the two canines has melted hearts. “Maisy waking up her deaf brother Levi to let him know we’re home never gets old,” the video’s text overlay reads.

The video shared the moment Maisy jumped onto the couch and gently nudged Levi with her nose, waking him up. Levi, clearly overjoyed, immediately sprang to his feet, wagging his tail in excitement as he greeted his returning family.

“Maisy has always been close with Levi, but toward the end of 2022, we began to see that she was paying more attention to what he did and didn’t do,” Justus told Newsweek. “She became very motherly to him even though she’s younger. She’s a mama bear.”

Despite the family often making adjustments to support Levi in day-to-day life, Maisy’s caregiving behavior started all on its own.

“She’s started doing everything she does all on her own,” Justus explained. “I’ve always loved creating content and sharing Levi and Maisy’s story because they’re so special, but this reaction has been incredible. I’m beyond thankful and very emotional these past few days.”
