How will the Eid of the people of Gaza be?

The moon of Shawwal was seen in the sky of Palestine. Accordingly, the Muslims of Palestine will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday. How will this Eid be for Palestinians devastated by Israel's attack?

Israel attacked Gaza on October 7. Over 33,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks in the past six months. Most of them are men and women. Almost every infrastructure in the north and south of Gaza has been destroyed. Palestinian survivors have taken refuge in UN refugee camps.

Since the start of the war, Israel has effectively blocked the entry of aid trucks into Gaza. This has resulted in a food crisis in Gaza. The United Nations issued a famine warning in Gaza last month.

On Tuesday, the United Nations reported famine in Gaza. Israel's approval to supply food to Gaza is still much more difficult.

'Food convoys should go particularly to the north, where 70 percent of people face famine, … with other types of material three times more likely to block entry than any other humanitarian convoy,' Jens Laerke, a spokesman for the UN relief agency, told reporters in Geneva.

Gaza's popular Al Remal and Al Saha bazaars were thronged last year to buy new clothes for children, as well as chocolate and Eid sweets. Today, the two markets are completely destroyed, the road is closed and some shop shutters are still standing, but the walls are gone.

Now Gaza is preparing to celebrate Eid with hunger, bombs and bullets. Eid prayers may be held in the devastated enclave, but the air of Gaza will be heavy with the cries of the bereaved.
