In Lakshmipur, 6 lakh people are stuck in water

Due to continuous rains and Meghna river water accumulation has caused waterlogging everywhere in Lakshmipur. About 6 lakh people are trapped in water. The administration is removing the illegal embankment of the canal with the help of the locals to solve the waterlogging. Apart from this, the administration continues to distribute dry food for water prisoners.

Laxmipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Suraiya Jahan confirmed the matter at around 11:30 on Thursday (22 August). Flooding has been reported in Laxmipur Sadar, Ramgati, Kamalnagar, Raipur and Ramganj.

District Fisheries Officer. Billal Hossain said that 17 thousand 500 ponds and reservoirs have been washed away in the district due to the ongoing flood situation, at least 3 thousand metric tons of fish of various types of small and big farmers have been removed. This caused a loss of 8 crore rupees. If this is the case, he expressed the fear that it will double.

Meanwhile, the training officer of the District Agricultural Extension Department said. Manjur Hossain said that 1 thousand 486 hectares of Aman paddy, 2 thousand 618 hectares of Aman paddy, 2 thousand 963 hectares of Aush paddy and 443 hectares of autumn vegetables were affected by flood. If the water rises for 2 more days, these will be destroyed. He said that seeds are being collected for the farmers.

DC Suraiya Jahan said that about 6 lakh people are trapped in water due to flooding in the district. Dry food distribution program continues from Wednesday (August 21). Besides, we have 189 permanent and temporary cyclone shelters ready.

The DC said that the canals of Lakshmipur have been illegally dammed by the powerful. Water can't get into it. People are helping us with information in this regard. Illegal dams are being cut with the presence of the administration and the support of the people. The control room has been opened with the help of water-bound people.

Lakshmipur Water Development Board Executive Engineer Nahid-Uz Zaman Khan said that all the sluice gates have been opened to alleviate the flooding due to the ebb of the river. The gates will be closed during high tide. All the time our staff is under surveillance.
