Upazila election

The polling of the 156 upazila parishad elections in the second phase of the sixth upazila parishad election ended on Tuesday (21 May). A few isolated incidents occurred during the polling. Besides, the election has been completed properly. In the meantime, the private results of several upazilas have been received. Private winners in results so far:

Faridpur: Kazi Shahzaman Babul, the candidate of pineapple symbol, has been privately elected as the chairman in the Nagarkanda Upazila Parishad elections of Faridpur. According to the results obtained at night, Kazi Shahzaman Babul was elected chairman of Nagarkanda Upazila Parishad by getting 37 thousand 209 votes.

His closest rival is the current Upazila Parishad Chairman. Moniruzzaman Sardar got 25 thousand 237 votes on motorcycle symbol. Md. has been elected again in Saltha with huge votes. Wadud Matubbar. As a result, he was elected as the Chairman of Saltha Upazila Parishad two times in a row.

Sirajganj: For the second time in Tarasha of Sirajganj, the candidate of Doat pen symbol was elected privately by getting 40 thousand 101 votes. Moniruzzaman.

His nearest rival Sanjit Karmakar, candidate of pineapple symbol, got 35,627 votes.

Rajshahi: Sharifuzzaman Sharif has won the post of chairman in the Durgapur Upazila Parishad elections of Rajshahi. Abdul Quader Mondal has been elected as the vice chairman. Banesha Begum has been elected to the post of reserved women vice chairman.

Cox's Bazar: Fazlul Karim Saeedi was elected privately by getting 56 thousand 122 votes in Doat Kalam Marka in Chakria of Cox's Bazar.

Jessore: Upazila Awami League president and former upazila chairman Vir Muktijoddha S. M. Habibur Rahman was elected. Female Vice Chairman Nasima Khatun was elected privately.

Nilphamari: Biad Arfan Sarkar Rana has been privately elected to the post of chairman in the upazila parishad elections in Sayadpur of Nilphamari.

clay: Nashir Uddin has won the election of Kaptai Upazila Parishad of Rangamati as chairman with the symbol of prayer pen.

Ubach Marma won the post of chairman in Rajasthani upazila with the pineapple symbol. Suipru Marma won the post of vice chairman in Kaptai upazila with the Tia bird symbol. Beauty Hossain has won the post of female vice chairman with the pitcher symbol. Independent candidate Dharmajyoti Chakma has won the Dighinala Upazila Parishad election privately with the motorcycle symbol.

Bandarban: Lamay Mustafa Jamal and Naikxyongchari Tofail of Bandarban won.

Dinajpur: Md. Afchar Ali was elected in Bochaganj upazila election of Dinajpur. He is the General Secretary of Upazila Awami League.

Chandpur: Advocate Humayon Kabir Sumon, candidate of horse symbol, won in Chandpur Sadar Upazila. Upazila Awami League President Anaras Pratiker Mohammad Helaluddin has won the post of chairman in the Hajiganj Upazila Parishad election. Mukbul Hossain of Ghora Prateek supported by Upazila Awami League has won the post of chairman in Shahrasti Upazila Parishad elections.

Brahmanbaria: Chaidur Rahman Swapan and Monir Hossain have been elected as chairman in the upazila parishad elections in Kasbay of Brahmanbaria.

Jhalakathi: In the upazila elections, Khan Arifur Rahman and Salahuddin Khan Salim were elected privately in Nalchiti upazila with the pineapple symbol in Jhalkathi Sadar. Lashkar Asifur Rahman Dipu and Umme Salma have been privately elected as Vice Chairman in Sadar Upazila. Moniruzzaman Monir and Ayesha Akhtar Rina were elected as women vice-chairmen.

Rajbari: Rajbari's Goland Upazila Parishad Election Chairman. Mustafa Munshi won. Vice Chairman Md. Asaduzzaman Chowdhury and Afroza Rabbani were elected as women vice-chairmen.

Gazipur: Salim Azad has won the post of Chairman in Kaliakair Upazila Parishad elections of Gazipur. He is the joint convener and current vice chairman of the District Jubo League.

Meanwhile, Mr. Shariatpur participated in the Sadar Upazila Parishad election for the first time and was elected as the chairman of the private results under the 'Horse' symbol. Kamruzzaman (Ujjbal) Akhandak. In Jazira Upazila, the candidate of 'motorcycle' symbol Mohammad Idris Faraji won privately by getting 47 thousand 847 votes.

Abdul Hai Bablu was privately elected to the post of Chairman of Sadar Dakshin Upazila Parishad of Comilla. He received 20 thousand 763 votes with the helicopter symbol. Hamid Latif Bhuiyan was elected for the first time as Chairman in Barura Upazila with pineapple symbol by getting 89 thousand 692 votes.

Voting started at 8 am and continued till 4 pm. In the second phase, after the polling in 156 upazilas, the counting of votes started after 4 pm. Voter turnout at the center is low in the morning but increases slightly later.

In 24 upazilas voting is done by EVM and in the rest by ballot paper. Except for some isolated incidents in Dayak district, voters cast their votes fairly smoothly. The candidates have no complaints about the voting environment. The Election Commission has already taken all arrangements for smooth and peaceful voting. To avoid any untoward situation, security is beefed up at every center. The total number of voters in the second phase of the sixth upazila parishad election is more than 3 crore 52 lakh.

Earlier, in the first phase of the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections held on May 8, the Election Commission said that 30 to 40 percent votes were cast in 139 upazila elections.
