India holds the world record for the highest number of votes

India recorded the highest voter turnout in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

According to the data of the Election Commission of the country, a total of 642.2 million voters voted in this election and almost half of these voters – 312.2 million are women.

India's Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar gave this information in a briefing at the Election Commission office in the capital New Delhi on Monday.

He claimed that the number of voters who voted in this election, there is no record of so many votes in one election in the history of democratic elections in the world.

Rajiv Kumar said at the press conference, '64 crore 2 million voters voted in the current year's Lok Sabha elections. Among these voters, 31 crore 2 million are women voters. We have set a world record for the number of votes.

In this election, the number of voters who voted in India — the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada — is more than the combined number of voters in the seven G7 countries.

This election is a manifestation of the incredible power of the Indian electorate.'

Like other democratic countries in the world, India also has parliamentary elections every five years.

Voting for this year's Lok Sabha elections is going on in seven phases. Voting started on April 19 and ended on May 31. The Election Commission will announce the results of the next election on June 4.

In Monday's press conference, the Chief Election Commissioner said that 1.5 million election workers and officials have performed their duties in this grand election campaign for about one and a half months.

More than 68,000 monitoring cells of the Election Commission were engaged across the country to monitor whether the polling is going smoothly or not.
