When asked about the talks to ensure the safe movement of Indian ships, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Monday that the recent move was a reflection of the two countries' “long-standing communication and mutual relations”. He said in a regular press briefing, nothing is being exchanged in exchange for these talks.
Since the US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, Tehran has been retaliating throughout the region. As part of this, ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz were also attacked. Three Indian sailors were killed and one went missing.

India said on Monday that at least 22 Indian-flagged ships and 611 Indian sailors are currently in the Persian Gulf. An Indian source said six of the vessels were carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). India is interested in getting these ships through first to meet the shortage of cooking gas.
About 90 percent of India's total LPG imports come from the Persian Gulf region.
