Israeli couple arrested on charges of espionage for Iran Bangladesh Diplomat

Israeli police said Thursday they have arrested an Israeli couple on suspicion of spying for Iran. The arrests came a week after two groups were detained on charges of working for Tehran.

According to AFP from Jerusalem, a statement from the police and Israel's internal security agency Shin Bet said, “Iran's efforts to recruit Israelis continue to be thwarted.”

The statement alleged that the two Israelis arrested were a couple from the central city of Lod. They were involved in gathering intelligence on national infrastructure, security sites and tracking a woman academic.

Rafael and Lala Goliev, residents of Lod, were arrested after working for an Iranian cell recruiting Israelis in Israel's Caucasus countries.

Police alleged they had conducted surveillance on sensitive Israeli sites, including the headquarters of Israel's Mossad spy agency, and had gathered intelligence on an academic working at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv.
