Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury has urged schools across the country to avoid the mindset of making decisions considering the current temperature in Dhaka. He said this in response to a question from journalists after the opening ceremony of Technical and Vocational Education Week on Sunday (April 28).
The Education Minister said, as per the forecast of the Meteorological Department, the temperature is likely to touch 40 degrees in five districts. 40 degree Celsius temperature is not new in Bangladesh. Therefore, it is not advisable to close all educational institutions across the country based on the forecast of temperature going above 40 in five districts. The mentality of making decisions for schools across the country only considering the temperature of Dhaka city should be avoided.
He said, in one situation the educational institution was closed on Saturday. We have discussions on whether the new curriculum process should close the entire year on Saturdays. As we have missed 10 days of teaching at the moment, it has been decided to keep the school open on Saturday. If it is not needed later, another decision can be made.
The education minister also said that if the temperature goes above 42 degrees Celsius in a district, there are district primary education officers, secondary education officers, they can discuss at the regional level to close the institution and change the teaching time.
Earlier, Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury inaugurated Technical and Vocational Education Week 2024. The Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Department of the Ministry of Education.
