The retired Supreme Court judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik was arrested by the BGB while fleeing to India through the Kanaighat Dana border in Sylhet. A video clip of the time of his arrest has already spread on social media Facebook.

The former judge was arrested from the border area on Friday (August 23) at 11:20 p.m.

Manik took Tk 60 to 70 lakh in cash, British passport and various personal belongings while fleeing. But those with whom he made a deal to run away took all the cash and left him alone. However, BGB seized Tk 40,000 cash from him during his arrest.

After the arrest, BGB members interrogated Manik on various issues. In response to the BGB members' questions about what he was running away with, he said, 'I had British passport, Bengali passport, some cash, debit card and credit card with me.'

At this time, someone from the side wants to know, 'What was with you during the detention today?' In response, this former judge said, 'There was nothing like that. It was like forty thousand rupees. Yesterday it was like 60-70 lakh rupees. It's taken away.' When asked whether the boatman had taken them or not, he said, 'They were taken by those two boys. I have nothing with me, the phone number has been taken away.'

The former judge, who is being talked about claiming that he was beaten before his arrest, also said, 'I was coming to an agreement for 15 thousand taka, I gave them that money. But later those two boys beat me and took everything. When asked in which area the beating took place, he said, “Inside India.”

Meanwhile, in the viral video, it can be seen that someone wrapped a towel around Manik's neck and held him with his hands. Another asks his name. At that time, Justice Manik told his full name and told that his home was Munshiganj.

At this time, some people asked him, 'Why were you running away?' Then Justice Manik said, 'I wanted to run away because of the fear of the administration.' Then someone from the other side said, 'You have done a lot of oppression.' Then he said, 'I did not do any injustice.'

Earlier on Thursday (August 22), a case was filed against former Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haque Inu and Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon for making adverse comments about the Zia family. A lawyer named Ziaul Haque appealed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam.

It is alleged in the case, that Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik called Ziaur Rahman a traitor and a war criminal on Channel I's talk show 'Metrosame to the Point' on October 3, 2022. In a seminar on February 15 last year, he said, 'Ziaur Rahman was not a freedom fighter. He was an intruder in the liberation war.'

In another event on 19 July 2013, Hasanul Haque Inu and Rashed Khan Menon also made adverse comments about Ziaur Rahman. Besides, it is mentioned in the statement of the case that the accused have made adverse comments about the Zia family at various times.
