Jabi lecturer Shahed expelled for sexual harassment


Jagannath University's film and television department lecturer Abu Shahed Imon has been temporarily expelled by the university administration for allegedly sexually assaulting a female student. At the same time, the chairman of the department, Prof. Dr. Junaid Halim has been removed from the post of chairman.

The decision to expel the lecturer from the university was taken in an emergency syndicate meeting on Thursday (March 21) afternoon. At the end of the syndicate meeting, Jobi Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim.

Earlier, on March 18, a female student of Zabir filed a complaint at the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police office that she was being threatened with death and expulsion from the university for accusing the teacher of sexual harassment. He made this complaint against the department's teacher Abu Saheed Emon and the department's chairman Junaid Ahmed Halim, seeking safety of his life. Then on March 19, the aggrieved student applied to the chancellor and president of the university seeking redressal of the same complaint.

A meeting was held between the DB and the university administration on Wednesday. Following that meeting, the accused lecturer Abu Shahed Imon was temporarily expelled from the university in an emergency syndicate meeting on Thursday.
