Jamaat-Shibir ban notification withdrawn, gazette today

The notification issued banning Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir has been withdrawn. The gazette will be published in this regard on Wednesday itself.

On August 1, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification banning Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, student camps and all related organizations under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to the notification, in several cases given by the International Criminal Tribunal, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (formerly Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh) and its affiliate Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir (formerly Islami Chhatra Sangh) are responsible for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War. considered as Besides, in view of a writ, the Election Commission has canceled the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party in the judgment of the High Court. The Appellate Division upheld the ruling.

Before this, the Awami League government took a 'principle decision' on banning Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the party's organizational student camp in a meeting of 14 parties on July 26. A proposal in this regard was accepted in the meeting of 14 parties held at Ganobhaban under the chairmanship of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that night.

Incidentally, according to section 19 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, if the government bans an organization, a review application can be made within 30 days by presenting arguments in writing against the decision. The government will decide the application within 90 days after hearing it.

At that time, the party called the decision to ban Jamaat-e-Islami as unconstitutional by the government's executive order. After the Awami League government was ousted from power, steps were taken to withdraw the executive order banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir. Jamaat and Shibir applied to regain legitimacy. In view of this application, the interim government canceled the ban notification.
