Jamaat's application to the Appellate Division to get back the registration

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has been doing religion-based politics in this country for a long time following the democratic and constitutional rules of Bangladesh. As a disciplined party, this party has already been able to make a big impact on the country's politics. But during the Awami regime, the registration of this party was canceled and even banned as a party.

A petition has been filed to revive the dismissed appeal in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to recover the canceled registration of Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party.

Mohammad Shishir Monir, appointed lawyer of Jamaat-e-Islami, said that he has applied to revive the appeal dismissed as 'dismissal for default' today.

He said, today the matter will be presented in the chamber court. Disposing of a writ petition, on August 1, 2013, the High Court ruled that the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami was canceled and declared illegal. Then in 2018, the Election Commission issued a notification canceling the registration of Jamaat. Later Jamaat appealed against the High Court verdict.

He also said that since the main lawyer of Jamaat was not present in the appeal hearing, the Appellate Division headed by the then Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan ordered to dismiss the appeal as 'dismissal for default'.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina's government banned Jamaat-e-Islami and Islamic student camps on August 1 during the anti-discrimination student movement. Under Section 18(1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification banning Jamaat, student camps and their other organizations. However, on August 28, a notification was issued canceling the decision to ban Jamaat-e-Islami and Islamic student camps.
