A police officer who was present during the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021 has described former Donald Trump’s first return to the area as “frustrating.”
“It’s frustrating,” Harry Dunn said per the Associated Press. He said that there was “irony” in seeing Trump being welcomed by lawmakers back to the site of the unprecedented attack.
“It just shows the lack of backbone they have when they’re truly putting party and person over country,” Dunn said. “And it’s sad.”
The former president, who is also the presumptive GOP presidential nominee for the 2024 election, is returning to Capitol Hill on Thursday to meet with House and Senate Republicans.
Many of his critics directly blamed him for the January 6 riot, citing his inflammatory language such as telling his supporters to “fight like hell” in a speech on the day.
