John Fetterman Facing Claim From Car Crash Woman

A woman is filing a personal injury claim against Democratic Senator John Fetterman’s insurance company after he crashed into her on a highway.

The Pennsylvania lawmaker is alleged to have accidentally driven his SUV into the back of the woman’s car on a Maryland highway.

No charges have been filed although a police report states that Fetterman’s Chevrolet Traverse appears to have been driving in a “reckless manner.”

Jennifer Campbell, 62, of Virginia, is filing against Fetterman and his insurer.

In a statement, Campbell said: “I think it’s important to recognize that I’m a real human being, and this crash left me with real injuries.”

In a statement released through her lawyer, Campbell said she could see Fetterman’s car coming at high speed toward her and braced herself for the crash.

She said she saw an SUV “rapidly approaching from behind” and prepared quickly for the crash.

He hit her so hard that her car ended up on the motorway shoulder, and her trunk was pushed into the rear seating area, she said. She said that Fetterman walked over to her to check on her welfare after the crash.

Campbell, Fetterman and Fetterman’s wife, Gisele, were all taken to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia as a precaution. Both cars had to be towed away because of the damage.

“Just so very grateful that after that, there were no serious injuries,” Fetterman told WHTM TV several days after the crash.

He also said needs “to do better and do it slower—and I will.” He said it was an “unfortunate accident.”

Newsweek sought email comment from Fetterman’s office and from Campbell’s attorney, Andrew Thomas, on Tuesday.

Thomas confirmed in a statement that Campbell is filing a claim.

“We’re handling it like we would with any other,” he said.

Thomas said in a previously released statement that it was noteworthy that nobody was charged for such a serious accident.

“In my experience with excessive speed, collision, and injury, there would be charges,” he said.

The accident happened on June 9, 2024, in Washington County, Maryland.

Maryland State Police said in its own statement that no trooper had witnessed the accident.

“The Department is committed to enhancing the safety of all who travel on Maryland’s highways by ensuring our troopers are both trained and provided appropriate discretion in their duties. Unless the trooper witnessed the crash, evidence of a violation must be established through an investigation. The MDSP allows troopers to conduct independent investigations and to utilize discretion regarding the issuance of traffic citations,” it said.

According to the police report, the collision occurred when Fetterman’s vehicle was traveling at a high speed, as observed by a witness. The witness described Fetterman’s vehicle passing her at a speed significantly above the posted limit before rear-ending an Impala just before an exit.

“Vehicle 1 (Fetterman’s) passed her traveling at a high rate of speed, well over the posted speed limit at which she was traveling at the time. Shortly after, Vehicle 1 rear-ended Vehicle 2 just prior to Exit 1 for I-68,” the report stated​​.

The police report also noted that there were no contributing circumstances such as impaired driving or road defects.

Fetterman was treated for a bruised shoulder and released the same day as the accident.

In a social media post soon after the accident, the Democratic Party Senator said it was “the worst anniversary ever.”

“Yeah, not great for your wedding anniversary but we’re both doing fine, and thank you to all of you who care,” Fetterman said, adding that he was using painkillers.

Fetterman, is the junior U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania. He was previously the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania and also served as a mayor in Braddock, Pennsylvania.

He was once seen as a progressive member of the party, but has criticized the lack of controls on immigration along the southern border and has made efforts to distance himself from the more left-leaning wing of the party on issues like Israel and Gaza.

He is also known for his unconventional dress style, preferring hoodies and jeans to business suits.
