Jon Scheyer’s Sideline Reaction to Braylon Mullins’ Game-Winner Goes Viral

Jon Scheyer’s Sideline Reaction to Braylon Mullins’ Game-Winner Goes Viral

In one of the most shocking NCAA Tournament games in recent memory, the No. 2 Connecticut Huskies — who trailed by as many as 19 — rallied in the second half to defeat the No. 1 seed Duke Blue Devils, 73–72, in the Elite Eight, punching their ticket to the Final Four in Indianapolis.

Duke led 72–70 with 10 seconds remaining and had possession after a made free throw. While the Blue Devils could have simply held the ball — even in the backcourt — and let the clock expire due to the 10-second violation rule, they instead attempted to advance it up the floor. Cayden Boozer tried to push the ball past half court, but his pass was tipped and stolen by UConn.

The ball found Alex Karaban, who, instead of forcing a contested shot, kicked it out to true freshman Braylon Mullins. With a clean look from well beyond the logo, Mullins knocked down the game-winning three with just 0.4 seconds remaining.

Following the game, CBS Sports shared a real-time reaction from Jon Scheyer and the Duke sideline as they watched the inbound, turnover, and eventual game-winner unfold.

Fans reacted to the viral moment:

“You can tell he wanted them to advance it. They didn’t need to … poor coaching,” one fan wrote.

Another added, “They already knew it was going in.”

“Jon Scheyer wanted him to throw it. If he makes the pass, nobody would even be saying he should have held the ball. It’s easy to say that after the fact. I’m glad Duke is going home,” another fan wrote.

“He had no clue that they could just hold onto the ball. How can the head coach not be aware of the situation?” one fan shared.

“This is legit one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen,” another commented.

Scheyer has done a tremendous job in Durham since taking over for the legendary Mike Krzyzewski following the 2022 season, but he has now been on the wrong end of devastating losses in back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

Duke blew a nine-point lead in the final two minutes of last season’s Final Four against Houston, and now falls on a game-winner to UConn in the Elite Eight.
