Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa, a journalist couple arrested in the case of capital's Adabar police station on the charge of killing a garment worker Rubel during the anti-discrimination student movement, have been sent to jail. On Saturday (August 31), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury ordered to send them to jail. Shakeel and Rupa were taken to jail after the court order as there was no arrest warrant in any other case.
Earlier, Adabar Thana police produced two people in court after 9 days of remand in two separate cases. The investigating officer of the case, Mintu Chandra Vanik, requested to keep the two in jail.
On the other hand, a lawyer applied for bail on behalf of the journalist couple. After the hearing, the court rejected the bail application and ordered everyone to be sent to jail.
Earlier on August 22, the father of garment worker Rubel Rafiqul Islam filed the case at Adabar police station as the plaintiff. In the case, Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Shakib Al Hasan and actor Ferdous Ahmed named 156 people and 400-500 others are accused.
