Juba Dal-Chatra Dal under control of sugar smuggling syndicate in Sylhet

Juba Dal-Chatra Dal under control of sugar smuggling syndicate in Sylhet

It has been alleged that the sugar smuggling syndicate in Sylhet is now being controlled by the Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal leaders. Before the fall of the Awami League government in the students' uprising, this syndicate was in the hands of the leaders of the Chhatra League and the Jubo League. Awami League president Sheikh Hasina resigned after leaving the country. The sugar smuggling syndicate has been reshuffled.

According to the information provided by the smugglers, after the change of power, the leaders and workers of Chhatra League and Jubo League went into hiding. In this opportunity, the leaders and workers of the Youth Dal-Chatra Dal took control of the syndicate. It is under their leadership that the stolen sugar is being brought from the border area in trucks and sent safely to different parts of the country including Sylhet. In return, the leaders of Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal are taking huge sums of money.

Talking to the residents of the border areas, it is known that an average of two to two and a half million rupees worth of sugar comes through the border areas of Goainghat, Companyganj and Jaintapur upazilas of the district. These sugars go to various parts of the country including the city's wholesale market Kalighat through Tamabil-Jaintapur-Sylhet regional highway and Bholaganj-Kompaniganj-Sylhet regional highway. Earlier, under the auspices of Chhatra League and Juba League leaders, their followers kept watch and smuggled stolen sugar trucks into the city every day from midnight to dawn. Now this work has changed hands.

According to several smugglers, after the fall of the government on August 5, the traders became inactive. Chhatra League leaders who are the master of smuggling also went into hiding. Apart from this, the surveillance in the border area is also increased than before. This greatly reduces trafficking. But sugar smuggling has started again. Now some leaders and activists of Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal are sponsoring the illegal entry of sugar into the city. Apart from this, in Haripur of Jaintapur Upazila, Shahparan and Ambarkhana of Sylhet Nagar and bypass area of Dakshin Surma Upazila, many people have been collecting money by posing as leaders and workers of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal.

In this regard, Sylhet Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman said, 'I have just joined the district. From now on, anyone involved in smuggling will be brought under the law. Irrespective of the party the accused belongs to, no one will be spared.'

Acting Police Commissioner of Sylhet. Zobayedur Rahman said that the police are conducting regular operations to seize stolen sugar. No one is exempted. Action is being taken against those against whom complaints are coming. Will take it in the future.

Sylhet district BNP president Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said, 'BNP acting chairman Tarek Rahman has strict instructions. Immediate organizational action will be taken against those who commit misdemeanors or crimes by defaming the name of BNP or affiliated organizations. I will look into the matter, I will take party action against anyone from Juba Dal or Chhatra Dal if they are involved in sugar smuggling. Apart from this, I will also request the police to take swift action against those concerned if they receive such a complaint.'
