Khaleda Zia's bank account has been opened after 17 years

National Board of Revenue (NBR) has opened all bank accounts of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

The chief adviser of the interim government. After consultation with Muhammad Yunus, the newly appointed chairman of the organization, Abdur Rahman Khan, gave this decision on Monday.

The former prime minister got his bank account back after 17 years. In 2007, the army-backed caretaker government froze the bank accounts of Khaleda Zia and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina. Later Sheikh Hasina's account was opened but Khaleda Zia's account remained frozen.

After the formation of the Awami League government in the 2008 elections, Khaleda Zia applied several times to open her account, but it was blocked.

After the change of power on August 5, Khaleda Zia's lawyer Ahmed Azam applied to NBR to open the bank account.

According to tax officials, the BNP Chairperson's bank account was frozen as per section 116A of the old law. According to the law, the order should cease to be effective after one year. But since the banks did not open the account, a letter was sent to all the banks on Monday.
