Khaleda Zia's bank account is active after 17 years

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has directed banks to activate all bank accounts of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

After 17 years of seizure, NBR Bank gave this order to activate the account.

NBR sources said the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) has already issued a note which will be sent to all financial institutions today.

According to a senior NBR official, NBR's CIC in August 2007 ordered the banks to freeze all the bank accounts of the BNP chairperson on the recommendation of a panel formed during the then caretaker government.

Since then his bank accounts were frozen. Although BNP has repeatedly demanded that the accounts of the former prime minister are active.

It should be noted that the order to activate bank accounts came two weeks after the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5 in a student uprising.
