According to the Meteorological Department, the pronounced low pressure over West Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal has moved west/northwestward and intensified into a low pressure. The pronounced low pressure developed into Monsoon depression at 6 am and was located over North Andhra-South Odisha coastal area. The depression is likely to cross North Andhra-South Odisha coast by midnight on Saturday.
These things were said in the special weather bulletin signed by meteorologist Hafizur Rahman on Saturday (August 31).
According to the notification, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra sea ports have been asked to display remote warning signal number 1 due to the effect of monsoon depression. Meanwhile, fishing boats and trawlers operating in North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to move cautiously near the coast till further instructions.
The regular weather bulletin also said that from 9 am on Saturday, light to moderate rain or thunder with gusty winds may occur at some places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and at a few places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barisal divisions. Along with that, there may be moderate heavy rain in some parts of the country.
Rangamati received the highest rainfall of 42 mm in the country in 24 hours till 6 am on Saturday. Besides, it has rained more or less in different areas of the country including 38 millimeters in Sylhet, 16 millimeters in Bandarban, 11 millimeters in Khulna. Generally, 1 to 10 mm of rain in 24 hours is considered light, 11 to 22 mm of rain is moderate, 23 to 43 mm of rain is moderately heavy, 44 to 88 mm of rain is heavy, and more than 88 mm of rain is recorded. There is heavy rainfall.
