Police have arrested BRTC bus driver Azizar Rahman (38), the main accused in the case of killing five pedestrians in Dinajpur Ranibandar market.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sheikh Jinnah Al Mamun confirmed the news of the arrest through a press conference at Dinajpur Kotwali police station around 3 pm on Friday.
The arrested BRTC bus driver Azizar Rahman is the son of Mofiz Uddin of Rajbari village of Dinajpur Sadar Upazila.
Additional Superintendent of Police Sheikh Jinnah Mamun said that the BRTC bus driver Azizar Rahman was absconding since the case related to the killing of four pedestrians by driving the BRTC bus recklessly at Ranibandar, Dinajpur on February 4. Azizar Rahman was arrested using various information technologies. Azizar Rahman was arrested from Nayanpur area in a raid last Thursday along with SI Indramohan Roy of Kotwali police station and some companions and police force.
He also said that several cases including sabotage, explosives, murder, kidnapping and extortion against BRTC bus driver Azizar Rahman have been tried in the court.
It is to be noted that four pedestrians died on the spot when a BRTC bus ran over them at Ranibandar Bazaar in Chirirbandar, Dinajpur on February 4. Later another pedestrian died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. A case was filed at Kotwali police station in this incident.
Also, on March 6, a case has been filed against Azizur Rahman in Dinajpur Kotwali police station for stealing a motorcycle along with a mobile phone. Currently, five cases are pending against Azizar Rahman.
During the press conference at Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station, Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Farid Hossain, Inspector Investigation Moniruzzaman, SI Indra Mohan Roy, SI Noor Alam and others were present.
