Maitri, Mithali and Bandhan will be closed on Eid

Three inter-country passenger trains plying between Bangladesh and India are being stopped in order to maintain the train journey during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. The trains are Maitri Express on Dhaka-Kolkata route, Bandhan Express on Khulna-Kolkata route and Mithali Express on Dhaka-Newzalpaiguri route.

As per Railway's decision, Maitri Express trains will remain closed from June 14 to 22 (9 days), Bandhan Express from June 12 to 20 (9 days) and Mithali Express from June 16 to 20 (5 days).

According to railway sources, the movement of inter-country passenger trains is stopped every time before and after Eid. The main purpose of stopping the movement of these trains is to reduce the pressure on the railway line and the workers. The Bangladesh Railway Authority has written to the Indian Railway Authority on May 13, suggesting how many days the trains will be closed. The Indian Railways also sent a return letter agreeing to the same.

The Ministry of Railways held a press conference on May 28 at noon at the Railway Building to inform about the preparations for the upcoming Eid trip. On that day, the matter of stopping the movement of inter-country passenger trains was informed.
