Many are returning disappointed

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) had informed long ago that the metro rail will be closed on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr and the next day. But because of not being able to know about it, many have come to different metro rail stations. According to them, they want to go to their specific destination by riding the metro rail in the empty city during the Eid holidays.

Metrorail authorities say that passengers will not be available as expected on Eid. It will increase the cost. Besides, the number of workers is also less. As a result, if the metro rail is kept open on this day, almost everyone will be busy with work except for Eid. All in all, it has been decided to stop the metro rail movement on Eid day. Apart from that, the metro will be closed for two days as Friday is a weekend.

However, many of the residents of the capital are disappointed with such words of the Metrorail authorities. Sajib-Uz Zaman Shanto, a student of Jahangirnagar University (JAB) business education branch, expressed some anger because the metro service was stopped on the day and the day after Eid.

He said, 'Metro is public transport. It should not be closed on Friday itself. And certainly not on the day of Eid. Cars are not available during Eid as most people go out of Dhaka. If there was a metro, it would have been convenient for those who would go out with their families in Dhaka.'

Talked to another regular metro user Ashiq Rahman. He told Time Sangbad that it is necessary to maintain the trust that the citizens of the capital have created in the Metro. If the metro is closed during Eid, it will not happen anymore. Doctors, police, journalists also do not get leave during Eid. Metro should always run there as public transport. But Metro is also spending Eid holidays.

According to the information received from various stations, there are more people who want to come to Dhaka University and Bijay Swarani in the stations of Uttara, Mirpur or a little distant areas of the capital. Majority of the capital's entertainment centers are located in these areas. Where more people go out during national days and major festivals such as Eid, in addition to everyday and weekends.

Rokeya, who wanted to come from Uttara Center station to Dubai station, said, I went out with my family. I hoped that I could reach DU TSC as soon as possible by metro rail. But when I came here, I saw that the metro was closed.

In a somewhat disappointed tone, he said, if the metro is closed during festivals like Eid, then those of us who celebrate Eid in the capital face some difficulties.

Nazmul Islam Bhuiyan, deputy manager of DMTCL, said that it was announced earlier to stop metro rail movement on Eid. This service was also closed last Eid. So, on Thursday (April 11) the metro rail service will be closed on the day of Eid. And Friday is a weekend. As a result, the metro rail movement is closed for two days. After that, the railway will follow the schedule from Saturday.

Nazmul Islam also said that an average of 245,000 passengers traveled on the metro rail in the beginning of the month of Ramadan. Before Ramadan, this number was close to 3 lakh. However, the number of passengers increased after the metro rail service was extended by one hour from 16 Ramadan. About 3 lakh passengers have traveled every day for a few days.
