Mark Cuban Trolls Elon Musk on X After Latest Controversial Post

Billionaire businessman Mark Cuban has criticized Tesla CEO Elon Musk after he promoted former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s show on X, formerly known as Twitter.

On September 3, Musk encouraged his followers to watch Tucker Carlson’s latest show, which featured an interview with podcaster Darryl Cooper who made extremely controversial statements about World War II which many interpreted as being sympathetic towards the Nazis.

Musk’s post read, “Very interesting. Worth watching.” It has since been deleted, but not before Cuban responded, “Delete your account.”

His post went viral, gaining 1.6 million views, 24,000 likes, nearly 2,000 reposts, and nearly 3,000 comments.

Cuban, who is Jewish, was one of many who condemned Musk for promoting Carlson and Cooper, as Cooper claimed that Winston Churchill was the true villain of the Second World War and that the Nazis didn’t intend to kill millions of people.

However, some comments defended the claims in the interview. One user accused Cuban, of not having watched it, and asked what he took issue with.

In response, Cuban wrote, “The fact that he described the Holocaust as rounding up people and local politicians’ The fact that they both said it so flippantly. As if talking about a recipe. There was no empathy from either of them. The fact that they tried to use an anecdotal story so they could convey the idea, that murdering millions was humane……because the Germans had poor logistics.”

His response incited further debate. While some users in the comments agreed with Cuban and called Cooper a “Nazi apologist,” others criticized him, claimed that he should not argue with Musk on his platform, or accused him of posting to gain Musk’s attention.

Many users encouraged Cuban to create a poll and have people vote on which entrepreneur should delete their X account.

It’s not Cuban’s first dig at fellow technology billionaire Musk. In August he suggested that Musk had altered X algorithms to suit his preferences and possibly influence the election while speaking to Jon Stewart on The Daily Show.

Musk refuted Cuban’s claim on X and said that the platform’s algorithm is “open source.”

Cuban also condemned Musk’s statements about freedom of speech on the social media platform, suggesting that Musk decides how “truths” are amplified or suppressed.

Best known for appearing on the investment show Shark Tank, Cuban has also previously criticized former Donald Trump, whom Musk supports, on numerous occasions, and supported Hillary Clinton in 2016 and President Joe Biden in 2020.

He also voiced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on X on August 6.

Newsweek has reached out to Cuban and Musk for comment via email.
