In protest against stopping autorickshaw movement in the capital, the protesting autorickshaw drivers have clashed with police-rickshaw drivers in Mirpur's Kalshi, set fire to the traffic police box and vandalized more than half a hundred vehicles.

On Sunday, May 19, around 4:20 PM, the agitators set fire to the traffic police box located at Kalshi Mor.

Confirming the matter, Inspector (Investigation) of Pallabi Police Station Mokhlesur Rahman said that the agitators are carrying out violent agitation in Kalshi. They set fire to a police box located at Kalshi Mor. This is a traffic police box. We are on the spot, taking necessary action in this regard.

Earlier, the drivers protested by blocking the road at Mirpur-10 of the capital in protest against the ban on battery-powered auto-rickshaws. At this time, the angry people vandalized vehicles on Mirpur road number 10. They had a chase with the police. The police lathi-charged some of the workers. At that time, more than half a hundred vehicles were vandalized by the protesting rickshaw pullers blocking the road. As a result of the clash, panic spread in the area.

On Sunday, May 19, the drivers blocked Mirpur 10 roundabout and some surrounding areas from morning. This stopped the traffic on Mirpur 10, 11 and 12. Heavy traffic jams are created in the area. Common people are facing extreme suffering to reach their destination. At noon, the protesting drivers blocked Kalshi Road.

They claim that the police are arresting them when they come on the road with battery operated rickshaws. Many of their cars have been impounded by the police. They should be allowed to ply autorickshaws and easybikes on the roads without any conditions.

Autorickshaw drivers block the road causing severe traffic jams. Panic spread as drivers took positions on different parts of the road with sticks. Many did not dare to drive even though the road was empty. However, many of those who ventured to the destination at risk were attacked. In this situation, destination-oriented people have suffered extreme suffering. Common people have to walk for several kilometers to reach their destination as bus services were stopped due to protests by autorickshaw drivers.

At around 2:18 pm, local member of parliament Ilyach Mollah came to the spot. He cleared the workers to make way for several vehicles, but the autorickshaw drivers blocked it. At that time, the police chase happened between the protestors. They threw bricks at the police. The police chased the workers again with water cannons.

MP Ilyach Molla said, we have to obey the order of the High Court. We have to look at the human side as well. At this time, he asked the autorickshaw drivers for two days.

Around 3:30 pm, the battery operated rickshaw workers withdrew from their movement in Mirpur-10 area. Mirpur 10 to 2, 13 and 11 roads are now operational. The situation returned to normal around 3:30 pm. There was a traffic jam on this road for more than 5 hours.

Due to the protest, the police closed the two gates of Mirpur-10 station for the safety of metro rail and passengers. MRT Police Additional Superintendent of Police Mahmud Khan informed this information.

The Additional Superintendent of Police of MRT Police said that the two north gates of Mirpur-10 station have been kept closed for the safety of metro rail and passengers. Although these two gates are closed, the other gate is open as usual and passengers are moving.
