Ikramul Haque Titu has won the post of mayor in Mymensingh city election by a large margin. In total 128 centers, Ikramul Haque Titu won by getting 1 lakh 39 thousand 604 votes. His nearest rival Sadequl Haque Khan got 35 thousand 763 votes with the milky elephant symbol.
Returning officer Mohammad Belayet Hossain Chowdhury announced the result at 10:40 on Saturday night.
After winning, Ikramul Haque Titu responded to the media. Titu said, 'Whatever is necessary will be done to decorate the city of Mymensingh. But first priority will be given to traffic congestion.'
District Awami League president Ehteshamul Alam got 10 thousand 77 votes in this election and another independent candidate Rezaul Haque with deer symbol got 1 thousand 487 votes. Agriculturalist Rezaul Haque and Jatiya Party candidate Shahidul Islam got 1 thousand 321 votes.
5 people were elected to the post of Mayor in Mymensingh City. 149 people participated in the councilor post election in 33 wards. And there were 69 reserved councilor candidates.
Returning officer said, 3 lakh 64 thousand 96 voters in Mymensingh City Corporation election. 128 polling stations. This city corporation polling is done through EVM. 56.30 percent voter turnout. The total number of valid votes is 1 lakh 88 thousand 948. 491 votes were canceled in this election.
Before this, the voters in the Mymensingh city election went towards the center from the morning. However, after standing in the queue, many of the women voters have to face the irony. Voting is delayed if fingerprints do not match. Mayoral candidate Ikramul Haque Titu also complained about EVMs. The polling of Mymensingh city elections ended in a peaceful atmosphere under tight security.
In Mymensingh, candidates and voters have complained of inconvenience to vote in EVMs. This reduces the speed of polling. Many also expressed the fear of low voter turnout. Although the election officials said that the speed of polling was slow in the beginning but later it got better. The Returning Officer informed about keeping one and a half times EVMs in the centre.
After the establishment of Mymensingh City Corporation in 2018, Ikramul Haque Titu became the first mayor unopposed. However, this time he contested with three allies and the candidate of opposition party Jatiya Party.
