Dhaka metro rail is starting on Sunday. Earlier, the metro rail movement was closed for more than a month.
Trains will run as per previous schedule from Sunday morning. Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations affected by the violence remain closed for the time being.
Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (MRT-6) Additional Director Zakaria told the media on Saturday afternoon that we have run 10 trains since morning. It is run as normal train runs. However, no passengers were transported. Metrorail will run as per earlier schedule from tomorrow.
Incidentally, miscreants set fire to the police box below the metro line in the Mirpur-10 roundabout area on July 18 due to the violence surrounding the students' movement. The train ran through the fire. Later, in the interest of public safety, the metro rail service was stopped after 5:30 pm that day.
The next day on the evening of July 19, miscreants vandalized Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations. They smashed everything including ticket vending machines, passenger entry punch machines at main stations. Pallabi and Mirpur-11 stations were also attacked that day.
On 29 December 2022, the Uttara to Agargaon section of the Metrorail was opened to public traffic. Then Agargaon to Motijheel section was launched on 4th November 2023. After the metro rail was launched from Uttara Uttar station to Motijheel, about three lakh passengers used to travel every day.
