Only a few years separate Millennials from Gen Zers and yet these two generations live worlds apart.
A woman from Toronto recently went viral on social media after trying to act like a Gen Zer and failing miserably to do so in a video that has left the internet in stitches.
In the viral clip, shared on TikTok in May, under the username @sarahmaycurd, the poster Sarah May Curd, attempts to make a heart with her hands the Gen Z way, but just can’t seem to work out how to position her fingers.

After trying to make it work for the entire length of the video, she finally decides to let it go and stick to the millennial way, the one she grew up using.
Millennials is a term culturally used to refer to everyone born between 1981 and 1996, while Gen Zers refers to the following generation, those born between 1997 and 2012.
The more than 72 million millennials in America were the first generation to integrate digital technology into their daily lives, and lived through the transition, on the other hand, Gen Zers were mostly all born in the era of iPhones and social media.
One of the biggest differences between the two generations is the way they see work. A survey by Adecco explains that while Gen Zers focus more on finding their dream job, millennials value stability more, and tend to follow their parents’ influence more.
Members of Gen Z are also more concerned about the cost of education than their counterparts ever were.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 99,000 views and 4,564 likes on the platform.
One user, Rae, commented: “Millennial heart still looks better, can’t change my mind.”
Evelyn Robinson said: “Gen Z heart is unnatural! Millennial hand hearts forever.”
Sammie wrote: “Do a peace sign, hook your pointer finger, then tilt your hand down. It’s easier that way.”

Another user, Evan Nakagawa, commented: “Nahh I’m old too, I don’t why kids change ged it. If I wanna seem “cool” now, I stick to the Kpop finger heart.”
Melaniecote301 added: “My 6-year-old will only do the millennial heart, she’s a Taylor fan and that’s how Taylor does it. I always knew she was smart.”
