Kidnappers have abducted four youths from Gurdaspur, Natore in Libya and demanded a ransom of 40 lakh rupees. The video of the scene of torturing them to secure the ransom is being sent to the family members of the youth in the country. Relatives are spending their days in fear and anxiety after seeing such videos of torture. The four abducted youths are also known to be relatives of each other.
After investigation, it is known that Sohan Prang, Sagar Hossain, Nazim Ali and Vidyut Hossain of Biaghat area of Gurdaspur Upazila went to Libya two years ago. The four of them lived together. They were abducted on the night of June 2. Since then, a ransom of Tk 40 lakh has been demanded from the family. To get the ransom, their family members are being tortured through video calls.
A video clip of the torture of abducted Sohan was sent to his family on Thursday afternoon. Seeing the cruel torture, his family is crying. Relatives are becoming unconscious.
It is known that the family members of all the four abducted relatives have come to Sohan's house and are passing the day in worry.
The family members of the abductees said that due to poverty, each family took a loan of 8 to 10 lakh taka and sent them to Libya. They send 10,000 to 15,000 taka per month to the country, but due to household expenses, the loan amount has not been paid yet. Meanwhile, they were kidnapped and demanded 40 lakhs as ransom. The parents of the four youths are worried about collecting this money and returning their children alive.
Sohan's father Shahjahan, who is a hostage, said, 'Sohan's mother's mobile phone number received a call from Libya. Sohan was saying in a tearful voice, “Save my mother, save my father, who is abducting me, saying that I have to pay 10 lakh rupees, otherwise they will kill me, save me and beg for my life like this time, mother”. Then tied Sohan in a room and sent a video of the beating.'
He also said, 'Two years ago, I sent my son to Libya by mortgaging the land and taking a loan of about 4 lakh rupees. 15-20 thousand every month for two years and gave about 2 lakh taka. I am spending that money in the world. I have not been able to pay the loan till now. Now he is asking for 10 lakh taka by holding his son hostage again. Even if we sell soil in our houses, we will not get so much money. Now how to rescue the son? I want the help of the government to rescue my son.
Nadira Begum, wife of Nazim, another young hostage, said, 'When it rains, water falls through the roof of the house. I sent my husband abroad after spending 4-5 lakhs on a loan to bring prosperity to the family. Now all dreams are broken. To rescue the husband from the abductors, one has to pay Tk 10 lakh. There is no proper rice in the house. Many times you have to go without food. How can I rescue my husband with 10 lakh rupees?'
Karimon Begum, the aunt of the abducted girl, said that the four abducted were relatives and lived together in Libya. The situation of the families is bad now. No one has food or drink. Everyone is getting unconscious after seeing the scene of torture on video call. He sought the intervention of the Prime Minister to rescue the four people.
Local resident Shahidul Islam said, 'The kidnappers are Bangladeshis. They demanded ransom money through a private bank in Bangladesh. However, the lives of the four youths are now in danger as the families cannot afford to pay the money. We call on the government to take steps to rescue them.
When asked about this, Gurdaspur police station OC Ujjal Hossain said that although the families of the four youths did not file a complaint with the police station, they spoke to the families. The matter has been reported to the Ministry through the Superintendent of Police.
