Empox, or monkeypox, has spread to Europe and Asia since it was first identified in the African country of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After Sweden, Pakistan, the Philippines also found empox virus in a person's body.
Since the beginning of this year, 548 people have died due to empox in Congo alone. Clyde One B, a new variant of Mpox, has spread to at least 13 African countries. The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has declared a state of emergency. The World Health Organization has also declared a global public health emergency.
The agency's emergency health warning says the symptoms of empox are similar to those of a fever or flu. Infected patients can infect others by coming in contact with them or even breathing in them. In addition, there is a risk of infection even if there is hunting, skinning and butchering of animals infected with empox.
But the Mpox virus was already in the world. Although it decreased in the middle, it has recently started to increase again. The virus was first identified in monkeys in 1958 and was named monkeypox, abbreviated as mpox.
However, last week, the World Health Organization declared a global emergency due to the Clade One B type of Mpox. This type of virus is thought to spread easily between people through regular close contact. Last week, this type was detected in the European country of Sweden. As a result, for the first time, the presence of the virus in other continents of the world beyond Africa came to light. And now this virus has been found in the Asian countries of Pakistan and the Philippines.
However, the new type of the virus was not detected in the body of the person infected with pox in Pakistan. He was infected with clade two of the virus. The clade one B strain of Mpox, which is widespread in the African continent, was not detected in his body. The country's Ministry of Health announced this on Monday (August 19).
Sajid Hussain Shah, the spokesperson of the Pakistani Ministry of Health, said that there have been no reports of Clade 1B detection in Pakistan so far.
Meanwhile, alert has been issued at all airports in India due to MPOX scare. Besides, alert has also been issued on India's land border with Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Officials in India have been ordered to increase surveillance of the highly contagious disease, formerly known as monkeypox. Indian authorities took this step after the outbreak of empox was declared a public health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO).
In a report on Monday (August 19) night, Indian media Live Mint reported this information.
