During the anti-discrimination student movement, a person named Russel Miah was shot dead by law and order forces at the capital's Rampura goal square. A murder case has been filed against 28 people including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this incident.
On Wednesday (August 21), the victim's wife Sharmin Akhtar filed an appeal in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Afnan Sumi's court. The court accepted the statement and directed the Rampura Police Station to take the complaint as a statement.
Other notable accused are former Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Jute and Textiles Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, State Minister for Information Muhammad Ali Arafat, State Minister for Information and Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Disaster and Management Mohibur Rahman, former Member of Parliament Wakil Uddin, Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, DIG Ripon Sardar, former DB Chief Harun-or-Rashid, former CTTS Chief Asaduzzaman, former RAB DG Harun-or-Rashid, Wari Division DC Iqbal Hossain, Motijheel Division DC Hayatul Islam, ADC Sabbir Rahman, RAB-10 Captain Farid Uddin, Rampura Police Station OC Mosiur Rahman, Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan, Dhaka Metropolitan North Chhatra League President Riaz Mahmud, General Secretary Sagar Ahmed Shamim.
During the anti-discrimination movement, it was alleged in the case that Russell Mia was shot dead by an unknown accused on the orders of the above-mentioned accused at around 2:30 pm on July 19.
