Music is prohibited in Shahparan shrine

Shrine authorities have announced the closure of various anti-social activities including singing and playing at the Shrine of Hazrat Shahparan (RA) in Sylhet. Khadim Syed Kabul Ahmad of the shrine said that singing in the name of Urs has been completely banned since Friday (September 6).

He said, music and playing on the occasion of shrines has been completely stopped. No one will bring a musical instrument. The music that is played here every Thursday has been closed. It has been seen that drugs are traded here under the guise of playing music. Which we Khadeem family do not support in any way. I strongly condemn them. From now on Thursday music will be stopped. If anyone tries to do it, we will resist it.

According to the sources of the shrine, the shrine authorities organize three-day Ors on the 4th, 5th and 6th of Rabiul Awal month every year.

Among the programs, the first day concludes with Quran, Dua and Zikir and Milad Mahfil. Second day Gilaf riding, cow jabeh, all night zikir and milad mahfil and recitation of Fateha at 4 am. Nawaz is distributed after Fajr Akheri prayer on the last day.

It has been alleged for a long time that outside the specific program of the shrine authorities, devotees engage in various un-Islamic activities such as dance-singing-alcohol-gambling, gaza, obscenity, women's dance. Apart from this, in the name of the fair, gambling events are organized during Ors. Thousands of devotees from different parts of the country leave Ashekan Ibadat Bandegi and spend time in these events.

Regarding the matter, Sylhet City Corporation Ward No. 33 Councilor Delwar Hossain said, “We have held a meeting on the issue of banning music and obscenity at shrines.” It has been decided that all kinds of obscene activities including music and drug consumption will be stopped in Shahparan shrine from now on. Law enforcement will cooperate. A committee will be formed with the worshipers, students and scholars to oversee the matter.

Incidentally, on Friday (September 6) Bad Jumma, students, Ulema Mashaikh and all levels of worshipers formed a human chain to demand an end to these anti-social and immoral activities.
