Narendra Damodar Das Modi has resigned as the Prime Minister of India before being sworn in for a third consecutive term. He submitted his resignation letter to President Draupadi Murmu.
According to an NDTV report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi submitted his and his cabinet members' resignations after visiting the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday (June 5).
India Today reported that President Draupadi has accepted his resignation. However, Modi requested the President to serve till the swearing in of the third term.
Narendra Modi is going to become the Prime Minister for the third time in a row with the victory of the BJP-led NDA alliance despite losing the single majority.
His swearing-in ceremony may take place next Saturday (June 8) afternoon, India Today reported in a report on sources. If Modi is sworn in as the Prime Minister this time, he will be the second leader after Jawaharlal Nehru to become the Prime Minister for the third consecutive term.
According to the poll results, out of 543 seats, the BJP-led NDA alliance won 292 seats, while the Congress India won 234. 272 seats are required to form the government.
BJP lost single majority and got 240 seats. Naidu's TDP won 16 seats and Nitish's JDU won 12 seats. Even though it got a single majority in the last two times, this time BJP has become dependent on its allies to form the government.
NDA has called the alliance leaders to Delhi to form the government after the polls. The alliance meeting will be held on Wednesday (June 5) afternoon. NDA leaders have started arriving in Delhi to attend it. In this meeting, there will be a detailed discussion about the formation of the government.
