NASCAR driver Corey LaJoie experienced a severe crash during the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway after the race was restarted on Monday following a rain suspension. The incident saw LaJoie’s car go airborne and travel a significant distance on its roof.

LaJoie, behind the wheel of the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, was just past the halfway mark of the NASCAR Cup Season race when disaster struck. His car nudged the left rear of Noah Gragson’s No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford. This slight contact caused his vehicle to veer left, before his car lifted off the ground as air gathered underneath the chassis, flipping the vehicle onto its roof before it came to a stop on the grass.

Describing the harrowing experience, LaJoie said, as quoted by Autoweek:

“We have a good car and I found a way to flip it upside down. Twice this year we’ve been upside down, and I hadn’t been upside down my whole career.

“It was a ride, buddy. There’s sparks and dirt and all sorts of stuff coming in. I just hate that our Garner Truck Camaro got a little dinged up. I think we had a top-12, top-10, car today, and I hate that we ended up on our roof.”

Thankfully, after a brief visit to the care center, LaJoie is okay and has not suffered any severe injuries.
