Need for greater social consensus on having national politics in education: DU VC

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University also expressed hope that the activities of Dhaka University will be fully launched within the next week. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, there is a need for greater social consensus, a greater social agreement on the question of whether there will be national politics in education. These things are difficult for organizations to do on their own.

He said these things while talking to reporters at his office on Wednesday (August 28).

Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, we respect the system of expressing opinion in the university. Will try to take steps to implement them. I fully agree with having a system for student-teacher expression. I personally think that if politics is to be done in the classroom, it should be educational politics. I will talk about paper and pen, I will talk about curriculum, I will talk about university and student-teacher relationship with society. This will be the main area of ​​student politics.

Regarding the party appointment of teachers and teacher politics, the Vice-Chancellor said that this is a big issue. Now I will actually try to deal with the immediate crisis. The point is important though. There is an anti-partisanship tone within the anti-discrimination rhetoric. Partisanship in recruitment goes largely against anti-discrimination ideals. If the stakeholders do not agree with me or support us, then it will be difficult for us to work on such an agenda. Our education advisor has some ideas. There are emotional issues, procedural issues, legal issues involved.

Bringing back the fair environment of education will be a difficult challenge. Niaz Ahmed Khan said that everyone's cooperation will be needed for this. It will require unwavering support from stakeholders and a commitment to leadership. Results will not happen overnight. Try with time. Dhaka University is a fundamental institution of our society and state. Its roots are deeply rooted in society. It will take a larger social consensus to handle everything.

He also said, my door is open. Anyone can talk to me. Everyone will have an opinion. I may agree with someone's opinion, I may not agree with some opinion. As I am committed to listening to everyone in the organization, I want to keep the door open for any suggestions. If you do not accept the advice, I will tell you the reason. But, regardless of party affiliation, it is very important to continue dialogue with everyone at this critical time, there is no chance to stop the dialogue. We are not waiting for a hundred percent perfect situation right now. I will start as soon as I can. Such a situation has never arisen in memory.

Regarding his priorities, Prof. Niaz Ahmed said, “My team hopes to be able to start working at full scale within a week.” We have been continuously talking to stakeholders since taking over. We are trying to start the university on the basis of consensus with everyone. That is, our first goal is to start academic activities from the residential halls.

The vice-chancellor said that there is deadlock in many places of the university. I am trying to speak in all circles. It is a public university. I think so very sincerely. My team is not fully operational yet. I am waiting for their cooperation. Students have long faced obstacles with the learning environment. They also have some reasonable suggestions. One has to do with the student-teacher relationship. One has to do with infrastructure constraints. We will prioritize the issues that everyone is talking about in general.

Regarding research, Professor Niaz said, the next priority will be to cooperate with the outstanding researchers in Dhaka University. It is a place of great interest to me. Our previous administration also took some initiatives to move up the rankings. The good works they did will be continued.

He further said that our students have to face a great challenge to adapt to the changing situation. It has both physical and mental aspects. Maximum support will be given to get them out of trauma. I will continue to try to solve the problems of Dhaka University with everyone's advice, this is my promise.
