High Court order
The High Court dismissed the writ seeking a direction not to fire on the protestors or agitators.
The court rejected this writ on Sunday (August 4).
Last Monday, Supreme Court lawyer Manzoor Al Matin Pritam and Ainunnahar Siddiqa Lipi filed a writ. The writ “sought a direction not to fire lethally at the agitators or demonstrators citing the danger of them taking to the streets.”
At one stage, after the partial hearing of this writ on Monday and Tuesday, July 31 was fixed for the next hearing on Wednesday. Earlier on Tuesday (July 29), a two-judge High Court bench said, 'All deaths are sad for us. We will not do anything that harms the nation.'
However, the dual bench did not sit on last Wednesday and Thursday as the other judge of the high court bench led by Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam, SM Masud Hossain Dolan, took leave due to illness. Bench officer Rezaul Karim said that only Justice Mustafa Zaman presided over the single bench of Islam.
Barrister Sarah Hossain, lawyer Barrister Anik R Haque, lawyer Manzoor Al Matin Pritam and Ainunnahar Siddika Lipi heard on behalf of this writ in the High Court.
Additional Attorney General SM Munir, Sheikh Mohammad (SK) Morshed and Barrister Muhammad Mehdi Hasan Chowdhury heard on Monday and Tuesday for the state. Attorney General AM Amin Uddin came to the court on Wednesday. Senior lawyers Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Nurul Islam Sujan, Mumtaz Uddin Fakir, Azhar Ullah Bhuiya and Supreme Court Bar Association Secretary Shah Manjurul Haque participated in the hearing of this writ.
