Interior Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury instructed, “During any operation, the law and order security forces must make arrests with their identity, no one can be arrested without identification under any circumstances.”
He told this to reporters at his office in the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat on Sunday. The Home Affairs Adviser said that an operation will be conducted to recover illegal weapons from September 4.
Earlier, on August 26, the adviser said that an operation would be conducted soon to recover the looted weapons from various police stations. Besides, some licensed weapons were misused during the previous government. Action will be taken regarding them.
According to the police headquarters, on Saturday, another 568 police weapons were recovered from various police stations and outposts across the country. The total number of recovered weapons is 3 thousand 872.
According to a press release sent to the media, 3,872 looted weapons have been recovered so far. Two lakh 86 thousand 216 rounds have been recovered. Apart from this, 22 thousand 201 tear shells and 2 thousand 139 sound grenades were recovered.
After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in the face of the student uprising on August 5, various police stations and outposts were attacked and vandalized and set on fire across the country.
The disorderly crowd looted arms and ammunition from many police stations. Law enforcement forces are recovering those weapons.
If any person has such weapons and ammunition, they have been informed by the police to submit them to the nearest police station by September 3. Otherwise legal action will be taken against them.
