Nomination papers of 11 candidates have been submitted in Nandigram upazila elections


Eleven candidates, including two former BNP leaders, have filed their nomination papers for the fourth phase of upazila parishad elections in Nandigram, Bogra. Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Humayun Kabir confirmed that 11 candidates submitted their nomination papers online on the last day on Thursday (May 9).

According to upazila election office sources, a total of 5 candidates have submitted nomination papers for the post of chairman. They are current upazila chairman Awami League leader Rezaul Ashraf Jinnah, upazila Awami League president Anwar Hossain Rana, Awami League leader Najibullah Majnu, upazila Jubo League general secretary Mahmud Ashraf Mamun and former joint editor of upazila BNP and former chairman of Bhatgram Union Parishad Shamchur Rahman.

4 candidates have filed nomination papers for the post of Vice Chairman (Male). They are current vice chairman and president of Upazila Jubo League Dulal Chandra Mahant, former general secretary of Upazila Chhatra League Shubo Ahmed, Aminul Islam Jewel and former vice president of Upazila BNP and former chairman of Thalta Majhgram Union Parishad Ilyas Ali. 2 people have filed nomination papers for the post of female vice chairman. They are the current women vice chairmen Shrabani Akhter Banu and Khaleda Begum.

According to the schedule of the Election Commission, the nomination papers will be selected on May 12. And appeal against selection of nomination papers can be made from 13 to 15 May. The appeal will be disposed of on May 16 to 18. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 19 May. Symbols will be allotted on May 20. Voting will be held from 8 am to 4 pm on June 5.

Upazila election officer Babu Haque said that the total number of voters in Nandigram upazila is 1 lakh 57 thousand 190 people. Among them, 78 thousand 349 male voters and 78 thousand 840 female voters. Besides, there is 1 Hijra voter. Polling will be held in 49 polling stations in this upazila.
