Shahadat Hossain, younger brother of Awami League general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, who was a candidate for the post of chairman in Companyganj Upazila Parishad elections of Noakhali, has been cancelled.
On Sunday (May 5) at 12:30 noon, the Returning Officer and Additional District Magistrate Muhammad Ismail canceled his nomination for concealing the information of the case and income statement in the affidavit.
The legitimate candidates for the post of chairman in this upazila are – former upazila chairman and current general secretary of upazila Awami League Mizanur Rahman Badal, former convenor and businessman of upazila Jubo League Mohammad Golam Sharif Chowdhury Peepul and U.S. expatriate Omar Ali. Except Shahadat Hossain, the younger brother of Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, the nominations of the remaining three have been validated.
Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader's younger brother Shahadat Hossain said, I did not know the case that was in my name. Also the statement of income has been accounted for, the Returning Officer did not notice it. There is an opportunity to appeal. I will appeal. Hope my nomination will be valid.
Companyganj Upazila Parishad Election Returning Officer and Additional District Magistrate Muhammad Ismail said that after verification, the nomination of chairman candidate Shahadat Hossain was canceled due to concealment of information about the case and income statement in the affidavit. Amended appeals are advised.
