A man named Kamal (55) was killed in a clash over cutting paddy on government land in Brahmanbaria's Sarail. At least 50 people were injured in this incident.
The incident took place in Shahjadapur village of Shahjadapur union of the upazila on Saturday (April 13) afternoon. The deceased Kamal Uddin is the son of Shahadat Ali of that village.
According to local sources, there was a dispute between Kauchar, Masuk and Afzal with the local Ripon Gangs over the cultivated rice of a government land.
Recently, both parties together with the chairman of the union council sat in a meeting to resolve the dispute at the police station. A meeting was also held in the office of the Upazila Executive Officer.
It was decided in both the meetings that no one can cut the rice of the government land and this rice will be cut under the supervision of the Chairman of the Union Parishad. Both parties agree to this decision of the administration.
But disobeying the decision, a party cut the paddy of that land on Friday morning, the day after Eid. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and recovered the hidden rice and seized it. Due to this, the clash between the two sides started on Saturday morning.
A person named Kamal Uddin was seriously injured in the clash. He was quickly rescued and taken to Sarail Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty of the emergency department declared him dead.
Sarail Police Station Inspector (Investigation) AS M Atiqur Rahman said that the clash took place due to a previous dispute over paddy cutting of the land. Police are deployed at the spot. Action will be taken if complaints are received.
