Police need to get out of bribery and work for public welfare: Home Affairs Advisor

Adviser on Home Affairs Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. directed the Superintendents of Police to take strict action against bribery and extortion. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

He gave this instruction during a briefing for the newly appointed 26 Superintendents of Police in the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat on Thursday (September 5).

The Home Affairs Adviser said that bribery and extortion are the main sources of corruption. If it can be stopped, many injustices in the society will be eliminated. He said that the police should get out of bribery and extortion and work for public welfare.

He also said that if bribery and extortion are stopped, the violence of the middlemen will be reduced, the farmers will get fair price. As a result, the prices of daily necessities will decrease and common people will be able to live in peace.

The adviser also said that the police has another business that is recruitment and transfer business. That too should be stopped immediately. Strict action will be taken if any police officer is found to be involved in these.

“Whoever is a criminal, he is a criminal,” said the counsel. Action should be taken against him as per law.

He said that it is the responsibility of the police to alleviate the public anger towards the police force due to past irregularities and corruption.

He urged the Superintendents of Police to work with the mindset of service with the existing manpower and logistics.
