Students of Institute of Marine Technology in Bagerhat staged sit-in demanding CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate). They gathered in front of Bagerhat District Commissioner's office on Sunday (September 1) afternoon and held this position program. Later the students submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner.
At this time, students of the Institute of Marine Technology, Sheikh Amanullah Rakib, Kamruzzaman Siam, Miraj Ahmed Shihab, Prince Howladar, Irfan, Dhirab Chandra Burman, Md. Anant, Imrul Hasan Apu and other students of the institute.
Sheikh Amanullah Rakib, a student, said that Bangladesh Shipping Corporation has closed CDC of Institute of Marine Technology students, which is managed under Manpower Employment and Training Bureau of Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment since 2010, using various pretexts. Due to which thousands of diploma marine engineers of the country are becoming unemployed. They are living a life of despair. Only the top students of the country get admission in Diploma Marine Engineering. But only because of lack of CDC they cannot work in foreign ships. What will students do after marine diploma if they cannot get employment in foreign commercial ships. We would like to be evaluated by the CDC to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Student Kamruzzaman Siam said, since 1988, CDC was given to diploma marine engineers from the Ministry of Shipping. Diploma Engineers have been serving with repute in foreign ships. Their earned foreign exchange has contributed to the development of the country. Bangladesh Shipping Corporation has closed the CDC of Diploma Marine Engineers through conspiracy. In addition, the eligibility to enter as a ship cadet in all other countries of the world including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is class 10. But why did we close the CDC? Diploma Marine Engineers should be issued by CDC from Ministry of Shipping as soon as possible. We have submitted a memorandum to the Honorable Advisor to the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment through the Deputy Commissioner.
There are 6 Institutes of Marine Technology across the country including Institute of Marine Technology Bagerhat under Manpower Employment and Training Bureau. Apart from this, a four-year Diploma in Marine Technology is taught in some private universities.
