Preparations for polling in 3 upazilas of Gaibandha completed

In the second phase of the sixth upazila parishad election, voting will be held in three upazilas of Gaibandha tomorrow, Tuesday (May 21). The three upazilas are Gaibandha Sadar, Palashbari and Gobindganj upazilas. Polling started at 8 am and will continue till 4 pm.

On the occasion of the election, ballot boxes and other equipment have been sent to the center for polling. Ballot papers were delivered to all these polling stations till Monday (May 20) afternoon. All kinds of preparations have been completed for the free, fair and peaceful polling said District Election Officer Md. Abdul Muttalib.

According to District Election Office sources, 418 polling stations have been set up in three upazilas and there are 2,883 polling booths. 418 presiding officers will perform the duties of polling in these polling stations. Under the leadership of the magistrate, 12 platoons of BGB and members of RAB and police forces will serve as the striking force.

15 candidates are contesting for the post of chairman in three upazilas of Gaibandha. Among them, there are 7 people in Gaibandha Sadar Upazila, 6 people in Palashbari and 2 people in Gobindganj Upazila.

In Sadar Upazila, 8 people as vice chairman, 6 women as vice chairman; In Palashbari upazila, 3 candidates are contesting for the post of vice chairman, 4 candidates for the post of female vice chairman and 5 candidates for the post of vice chairman and 7 candidates for the post of female vice chairman in Gobindganj upazila.

The total number of voters in three upazilas is 10 lakh 55 thousand 613 people. Among them, there are 5 lakh 19 thousand 923 male voters, 5 lakh 35 thousand 675 female voters and 13 transgender voters.
