President pardons 57 Bangladeshis sentenced in UAE

President Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has pardoned 57 Bangladeshis convicted by the Federal Court of the United Arab Emirates. Soon they will be sent to Bangladesh.

Tuesday morning (September 3) in a meeting with media editors and businessmen at the Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna, the chief adviser. Muhammad Yunus said this. This information was informed in a message sent from the press wing of the Chief Adviser.

On July 19, a court in the country sentenced 57 Bangladeshis to various terms of imprisonment for protesting in the United Arab Emirates in solidarity with the quota reform movement. Three of them have been sentenced to life imprisonment, 53 to 10 years and the remaining one to 11 years.

Emirates News Agency (WAM), the state-owned news agency of the emirate, said at the time that they would be repatriated after their prison terms.

According to the WAM report, these people were protesting against the government of their own country. An eyewitness confirmed that they organized large-scale protests on several roads in the UAE to protest against the decision taken by the Bangladesh government.

Meanwhile, on August 18, Foundation for Law and Development (FLD) Chairperson Senior Advocate Fawzia Karim claimed in a press conference, then the officials in charge (of the embassy) told the officials of Dubai that they are terrorists, (expatriate activists) are anti-independence, they have no objection if they are arrested. Due to which no legal aid was given. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has written to every embassy asking them (the protestors) to be silenced and punished.

He also said that we have written to the chief advisor and other advisors to the foreign affairs advisor. They should deal with the remittance fighters. We will provide legal support from the country.

On that day Fauzia Karim Feroz also said that the consul general of Dubai is BM Jamal Hussain. But he is the most responsible person who is responsible for the punishment of these 57 people. He did not give any kind of legal support. He called them (the agitators) anti-freedom. It was a very favorite dialogue. If the anti-independence Jamaat-Shibir disagreed, you would have become a member of another party. You are anti-libertarian. I heard this myself when I was in the Human Rights Commission.

He said, not only 57 people. More people were arrested. Many don't know it's traceless. Not only in the Emirates, but also in other countries. Some relatives have come to us. Those who are not among the 57 people. We will provide all assistance. We are trying a voluntary one in Dubai. The government should take its measures immediately.

After this incident, the United States-based international human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) and the National Human Rights Commission condemned it.
