Prime Minister in the National Assembly
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed optimism that it will be possible to rein in the prices of daily necessities in the market during Ramadan. He said that the price inflation will be at a bearable level during the holy Ramadan and it will be possible to rein in the prices of daily necessities in the market. As a result of the government action, there will be relief in the living conditions of poor people, especially poor families, elderly, widows, married women and low income people.
The Prime Minister said this in a question and answer session in the Parliament meeting on Wednesday in response to a question from Ali Azam, a member of the government party. Speaker before this. The meeting of Parliament started under the chairmanship of Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.
The Prime Minister said that the present government is the people's government. So the government is always trying to reduce the suffering of the people. The government has continued all activities to stabilize the prices of essential commodities. It has already been possible to contain the abnormal rise in the prices of consumer goods to a large extent. Due to the increase in the prices of some products such as fuel oil, edible oil, wheat, fertilizers and various food products, consumer goods and industrial raw materials in the world market, the pressure of import inflation is being felt in the country. He also said that various duties are being exempted to reduce inflation.
In response to Ali Azam Mukul's supplementary question about the increase in commodity prices, Sheikh Hasina urged people not to listen to rumours. If everyone is aware and does not listen to rumours, no one can create problems by spreading rumours.
He also said that the government is aware enough to prevent unscrupulous traders from playing with human food. We have to import many products. There is also an effort to overcome this dependency and increase their own production.
In response to a supplementary question by Jatiya Party's Mujibul Haque Chunnu, the Prime Minister said that the government has taken various steps to control commodity prices. Legal measures including mobile courts are being taken. However, if he intentionally increases the price of the product, strict action will be taken against him. But Ramadan is the month of austerity. In Ramadan, people should consume less food, save food. But here it can be seen that food intake increases a little. In fact, it is not for that reason.
He said, if the price of the produce of the farmer falls too much, then the farmer does not get the fair price. And if prices go up more, people with fixed incomes suffer. It is difficult for the consumer. For this two things have to be observed. The government is quite aware of this.
In this context, the Prime Minister also said that only the government will see everything, not that. Those who are elected representatives also have a responsibility. If everyone cooperates with the market monitor, these unscrupulous traders will not be able to increase the price of daily commodities in such a dishonest way.
There will be no load shedding at Tarabi-Sehri
In response to the question of Abul Kalam of Natore-1 constituency about uninterrupted electricity in Tarabi, the Chief Minister said that electricity is being generated at a huge cost. It is distributed as subsidy. Now the price of everything including oil, LNG, transportation has gone up globally. Despite that, the government is trying to ensure uninterrupted power supply. It is true that there is a shortage of fuel oil and LNG. Power generation is reduced or disrupted due to any reason. However, there will be no problem of electricity during Tarawih prayers and Sehri.
Sheikh Hasina pointed out that once there was load shedding for 10-12 hours in the country, now that is not the case, but it is good to have (load shedding) occasionally. Otherwise people will forget the past. At least you will understand where I was and where I am.
In response to Awami League's Nurunnabi Chowdhury's question, the Prime Minister said that the country is continuously moving forward. With the increase in economic activities, the quality of life of people has also improved. Therefore, the main driving force of the economy is fuel, the demand for natural gas is also increasing at an increasing rate. As a result, it is not possible to adjust the supply of gas demand.
